The Nativity Letters

Stock Code: 9780719707247

An epistle sums up the slightly old-fashioned attitude of Mrs Benson and Christine and the consequent importance they attach to the conventions. This is the main reason why Christine pretends that her husband is away at work, rather than admit to herself and others that he has left her and their daughter.

The play highlights the strains put on mother and daughter in the interdependence of a single parent family, which makes them tend to dissociate themselves from other people. Nita, the problem daughter, reaches an age when she becomes aware of the true situation and seeks to change things by joining the drama group where she is helped by a committed young teacher. Subsequently, events cause Christine to admit the truth at last and ask the teacher for hep as well.
